Ward Blocking Creep Camps

Postby Racer Xonclar » Mon Apr 09, 2012 9:40 am

Okay, I tried this last night in a game where we were facing a Pugna/Morphling lane...and Pugna was stacking and pulling. As far as I knew, you just placed a ward down somewhere it had vision of the camp and because it granted vision, the camp would not spawn. Rage followed as I watched the camp spawn in full vision.

Looking into it, I found this thread which said something...confusing. They linked a pic as well showing the area it checks for units.

So...even though I've heard from several people it's based upon vision of the camp...it's actually the physical placement of the ward inside these areas?

vision is not the only thing that stops creeps spawning, think about the wardspot in each jungle high up on the cliff, creeps still spawn in those places. What you have to do is have something within the box thats checked before spawning.

It is a common misconception that vision prevents jungle creeps from spawning. If you play with someone with very high sight range (enchantress for example) you can actually watch the neutral creeps spawn. This works with wards as well. As long as the ward is close enough to the camp, the camp will be blocked, regardless to if there is vision of the camp. For example, in a few competitive games, people have placed an observer ward in the river right under the dire ancient camp to give river vision as well as denying the ancients. Vision plays no part in denying creep camps.

In a related matter, I ran across a guide for warding awhile ago that is absolutely spectacular. The Team Dignitas Guide to Warding is an awesome piece of literature that should help your placements. Includes pictures, as well.

Very, very nice. Mid to late game wards are always where I'm a little lost. I know the "go-to" spots (turtle cliff, radiant ancient cliff) but beyond that, I'm kinda guessing around and hoping it is useful :P
